My boyfriend's sister is getting married and I received my own separate invitation. My boyfriend is not getting the couple a gift because he is still a student and has no income. Since I received my own invite I feel like I should give my own gift...what is an appropriate amount?

Wedding Gift Amount
by: Wendy (Modern Manners and Etiquette)
Thank you for your question.
Weddings are a wonderful time to celebrate a happy couple starting out. A great way to honor them is with a gift that you have selected for them.
Many wedding gurus will tell you that there is a certain amount for wedding gift etiquette to be observed. I am not that kind of person.
I am a practical person by nature and thus being, I have found that the best gift I can give the happy couple is one that will fit into my budget. It is not advisable to go into debt to buy a wedding present.
If the couple is registered, look over their registry and see if there is a suitable gift that fits your budget. If not, use their registry as an idea of the things that they would like and find something that fits. I also love to create gifts, because it adds a personal touch to what I am giving them.
I hope this helps!!! Best wishes!
